Testing and Quality Assurance

In the industrial valve sector, product reliability is not optional—it is a fundamental requirement. Valves are used to regulate the flow of liquids, gases, and steam in critical industries such as oil and gas, power generation, petrochemicals, water treatment, mining, and chemical processing. A single valve malfunction can result in production interruptions, equipment damage, environmental incidents, and safety risks. For this reason, testing and quality assurance are central to the manufacturing philosophy of ShangTie Valve.

The company integrates quality control into every stage of production, from material procurement to final delivery. Rather than relying solely on final inspections, ShangTie Valve follows a systematic quality management approach that focuses on prevention, traceability, and continuous improvement. This commitment enables the company to provide valves capable of performing in high-pressure, high-temperature, and corrosive operating environments.

Raw Material Verification

The foundation of any high-quality valve is the quality of its raw materials. ShangTie Valve begins its quality assurance process by sourcing materials from qualified and audited suppliers. Materials commonly used in production include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, duplex stainless steel, and other specialized materials selected according to application requirements.

Incoming materials undergo strict inspection procedures before entering the production line. Chemical composition analysis verifies that material properties comply with required specifications, while mechanical testing confirms tensile strength, hardness, and impact resistance. Material Test Certificates (MTCs) are reviewed to ensure compliance with international standards and customer requirements.

Each material batch is assigned identification records to guarantee complete traceability throughout manufacturing. This traceability allows engineers to monitor product history from raw material procurement to final installation.

Manufacturing Process Control

Quality control continues throughout every production stage. Machining operations are monitored carefully to ensure dimensional accuracy and consistency. Advanced measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and coordinate measuring equipment, are used to verify critical dimensions.

Manufacturing personnel follow documented operating procedures and technical drawings to maintain production precision. Components that fail to meet tolerance requirements are identified immediately and removed from the production process before assembly begins.

By implementing in-process inspections rather than waiting until final testing, ShangTie Valve reduces defects, minimizes rework, and improves overall production efficiency.

Welding Quality Assurance

Many industrial valves contain pressure-retaining welds that must withstand demanding operating conditions for extended periods. As a result, welding quality plays a significant role in valve reliability and safety.

ShangTie Valve uses qualified welders who operate according to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). These procedures define welding parameters, filler materials, heat treatment requirements, and inspection methods. Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) verify that welding procedures meet mechanical and metallurgical standards.

After welding, joints are inspected visually and through additional testing methods to ensure there are no cracks, porosity, inclusions, or incomplete penetration defects. This rigorous approach helps guarantee structural integrity under high pressure and elevated temperature conditions.

Non-Destructive Testing

Non-destructive testing (NDT) forms an important part of the company's quality assurance program. NDT techniques allow inspectors to detect defects without damaging the valve or affecting its future performance.

Common testing methods include:

· Radiographic Testing (RT): Uses X-rays or gamma rays to identify internal weld defects and casting imperfections.

· Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal discontinuities and evaluate material thickness.

· Magnetic Particle Testing (MT): Identifies surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic materials.

· Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT): Detects surface flaws on stainless steel and non-magnetic materials.

· Visual Testing (VT): Examines surface quality, machining accuracy, and assembly conditions.

The use of multiple NDT methods increases inspection reliability and ensures that hidden defects are identified before products are delivered to customers.

Hydrostatic Pressure Testing

Hydrostatic testing is one of the most critical procedures in valve manufacturing. Every pressure-containing component must demonstrate its ability to withstand operating loads safely.

During hydrostatic testing, the valve body is filled with water and subjected to pressures exceeding its normal operating rating. Inspectors monitor the valve for deformation, leakage, or pressure loss throughout the testing period.

This procedure verifies the structural integrity of castings, forgings, and welded joints while confirming that the valve body can operate safely under demanding service conditions.

Hydrostatic testing is particularly important for applications involving steam systems, power stations, and high-pressure pipelines where failure consequences can be severe.

Seat Leakage Testing

A valve's primary function is controlling flow and preventing leakage when closed. Seat leakage testing evaluates sealing performance under specified pressure conditions.

Depending on valve type and application requirements, tests may use water, compressed air, or inert gases. Leakage rates are measured according to international standards to ensure compliance with customer specifications.

Zero-leakage requirements are especially important in industries handling hazardous chemicals, toxic gases, and high-value process fluids.

Functional and Operational Testing

In addition to pressure and leakage tests, ShangTie Valve performs functional testing to confirm smooth operation and reliable performance.

Manual valves are cycled repeatedly to verify opening and closing torque values, stem movement, and seating performance. Automated valves equipped with pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric actuators undergo additional operational testing to confirm response speed, positioning accuracy, and control reliability.

Operational tests simulate real service conditions and help identify assembly issues before shipment.

Compliance with International Standards

Global customers require products that comply with internationally recognized standards. ShangTie Valve manufactures and tests products according to standards such as API, ASME, ANSI, and ISO requirements where applicable. The company also operates under certified quality management systems that emphasize process control, documentation, corrective actions, and customer satisfaction.

Compliance with these standards provides assurance that products meet international safety and performance expectations while simplifying acceptance in global markets.

Documentation and Traceability

Documentation is an essential component of industrial quality assurance. ShangTie Valve maintains records for raw materials, machining inspections, welding qualifications, pressure testing, calibration, and final inspections.

Each valve receives a unique serial number that links it to production records and material certifications. This complete traceability allows customers to verify product history and simplifies maintenance, audits, and warranty investigations.

Documentation packages supplied to customers often include inspection reports, material certificates, test results, and compliance declarations.

Continuous Improvement

Quality assurance is not a one-time activity but an ongoing process of improvement. ShangTie Valve continuously invests in advanced manufacturing technologies, testing equipment, and employee training to improve product performance and production efficiency.

Customer feedback, field performance data, and internal audits are analyzed regularly to identify improvement opportunities and prevent recurring issues. By combining technical innovation with strict quality control, the company strengthens its competitiveness in global markets.
